Out in the Universe: Birthday Week

I turn 40 this week.

And, somehow fittingly, this is also my fifth birthday as LegsForeverXO.

Five years of art, visioning, worldbuilding, performing, writing, experimenting, imagining things and then finding ways to bring them into form.

Lately, I’ve been creating more freely and more regularly. I’m developing rhythms and processes that affirm how I create. I’m sharing more openly. Ideas are becoming projects. Projects are creating new connections. Characters are finding stages. The universe is getting bigger, more detailed and more real.

Everything I said I wanted to do as an artist, I am naming, claiming and building the infrastructure for.

That feels really fucking good.

Speaking of saying things, I also recently wrote Make Your Own Fucking Sauce, a Field Note about influence, copying, creative lineage and my belief that Black women already possess more than enough sauce to make something distinctly our own.

Go read that.

I’m kittening for Bri and the Sparkling Diamonds for the Island’lesque Show at 10 PM.

We’re kicking off birthday week with a little island gyal behavior. I’ll be keeping the show moving while Bri and the cast bring the Island heat to the stage.

MOANIN IN THE SUN: ODE TO SUMMER

I.Ø. Moon and Wes (Mr. Heaux Responsibly) are closing out summer with a private, invite-only nude pool party centered around Black joy, connection, pleasure and the freedom to simply be.

3–9 PM. Private pool. Nude swimming encouraged. Clothing optional, confidence required.

Spaces are very limited, all guests must be vetted, and registration is closing soon.

I’m celebrating at Suzy Q’s Sherry & Fried Chicken Picnic from 5–9 PM.

Sherry. Cocktails. Korean fried chicken. Picnic blankets. Side dishes. Tunes. Yard games.

The event itself is free and open to all, but food, signature cocktails and bottle service need to be preordered by September 12.

I’m making my debut with Brass & Bones Cabaret at Café Istanbul.

Burlesque 101: Birthday Edition

10 AM–12 PM at Dance Quarter at 1719 Toledano St.

I’m closing out birthday week with the next installment of my beginner burlesque workshop, and because it’s my birthday, I’ll be giving away complimentary spots all week long.

Watch closely! There will be more than one way to claim one.

Saturday evening, (after what I'm sure will be a lovely dinner once I make up my mind about where I want to go lol) I’m heading to Curtain Call Cabaret to see my dear friend Pinq Magnolia and some dolls visiting from Texas take the stage at Bayo Social.

Doors at 8:15 PM. Show 9–11 PM. 21+. And if you want to make a whole night of it, VIP tickets include a three-course meal and two drinks. Early bird still available until 9/12.
